We've gotten really tired of the sales process for Enterprise Scale CMS. You get a recommendation at a conference, and maybe get sold a bill of goods, maybe get some free merch, and then you go to the company website for the products and what do you find? A really slick sales page, with some references to current customers (who may not really like their product at all, and just got stuck with it by their VPs), and some fancy marketing language about how great it is. There really is no description about what it is, how it works, what makes it different from the others, or what precise features it has. You are left wondering, what even is this thing? All you know is it is "smart" or "AI-enabled" or whatever is popular with the cool kids these days. We'd like to put more effort into our website than just a sign-up form that says "contact us for a quote". Of course, we'd like you to contact us, but we want to show you what we do and how we think.

We are doing it differently. We are showing you the product. This whole site was built on our product in just a few days, look at the dates on these early stories if you don't believe us. We use our product. We like our product. Using it every day gives us great insight on improvements we can make.

Let's go back to that mention of "AI-enabled". I want to point something out. You've probably noticed that just about every image on this site is AI-generated. That's because we don't have a giant design team trying to gin up the appeal of our product, because we shouldn't. It would be a waste of our time and money. Our sales strategy is satisfied customers. Our sales strategy is having the fastest, most versatile product on the market. We aren't selling how it looks, we are selling how it works, and not a single one of your users will ever see what it looks like anyway, will they? They will see your content not ours.

We specialize in being able to work with your people, putting their designs into practice, and scaling it. We'll make some improvements, set up the dynamic views, and make sure that the back-end runs as fast as possible, and start distributing that content. It's really not very hard, the CMS business just wants you to think it is.

Let's talk more about "AI-enabled", I'll use this article as an example: I wrote this story in 10 minutes, without leaving our story editor. Clicking the button "AI Copilot Titles" sent chatGPT a prompt for the poster image, and it was ready by the time I was done writing. All of that happens within Viking CMS itself. It took two clicks screenshot the output and add it to our Image Library, and inline it in the story body. Here is the output for titles:

reveal not conceal

These titles are based on our own editorial guidelines, and I think I might add "don't use our name so much", because it's getting to be a bit much. You'll be able to do that too. When we set up your company, you'll be using your editorial guidelines, based on your entire company history of content production. You don't even have to have your own written guidelines, we can make them for you.

It took 2 seconds for OpenAI to create a couple candidates for the metadata of this story. It works exactly the same. I just picked the one I like.

That's how you create original, authoritative content fast!

Don Drury

I'm Don Drury, and I created Viking CMS. I built a whole enterprise-scale CMS based on a need I saw working as a front-end developer within the largest media conglomerate in Oklahoma. They had spent 20 years trying to work around their CMS. They had hired a back-end developer, a front-end developer, 4 designers and still weren't able to do the basic things they wanted to do. I built Viking CMS and changed everything for them.
