Our product is being used in the local news (TV and radio) industry, and was originally built to serve glaringly unmet needs in that industry. There are lots of enterprise-scale CMS solutions available for that space, Frankly, BLOX, Brightspot, Worpress "VIP", etc, however they were all built to serve the CMS provider, and it's needs, instead of the customer's needs. The customer needs SPEED most of all, lost of different kinds of speed. Not just the speed for the end-user, to retrieve potentially outdated story content from it's CDN, either. There is the page load speed, the UI speed, the Cumulative Layout Shift score, the speed it takes for a change to finally be available to the user (TTL), and finally speed at which the producer can create a story, assign it to one or more categories and actually have it render for the end use. We focus on the complete action life-cycle speed, including the tasks your team members do.
Viking CMS, however, is not just for the local or regional news space. It can be used for any content-based website. You could be an individual content producer, a news aggregator, a topical news site (financial news, sports news, tech news). It's just a different way of thinking about the tech stack, and the relationship between the CMS organization and it's customer.
Viking CMS especially well suited for companies who have staff developers with basic HTML/CSS skills, and producers who generate story content. You can design your site in house, hand us the HTML you want, and we can give you a full featured, enterprise-scale CMS. It is framework-agnostic, and there is no CSS/JS overhead that you would find with Wordpress or similar. It is literally whatever you want it to be. Your company creates your design, and we turn it into a CMS, without a single line of unnecessary front-end code. Each customer has its own unique Javascript and CSS bundle, you won't find any extra "plugins" or features dangling around, slowing down your UX.
Viking isn't just about categories and stories either, your team members can also contribute pages with the full scope modern HTML. Your developers and designers can drag and drop raw HTML, CSS, and Javascript directly into our template designer, creating any short term or long term page. This has been incredibly productive in the TV and radio space, because they are frequently creating "sponsorship pages" and "contest pages" based on the whims of their ad sales teams. Viking gives them full flexibility to create whatever they want. This was all built prior to the rise of AI, and it has turned out to be an incredibly useful tool when combined with AI.
We welcome the use of AI tools to create pages on our system. We've spent years determining the most secure and stable ways to include "unsafe" HTML/CSS/Javascript into our page, and we are confident we've got it right! This means that your "design team", could really just be people writing prompts to chatGPT, or whatever HTML generation tool you prefer, and they can copy/paste that content directly in to our template designer and let it run naturally. We also think this is the best way to incorporate AI into your workflow, to let your people choose the tools they prefer, and are most comfortable with, and ingest it's output. We don't want to box you into any particular AI framework, because we recognize that industry is growing faster than any single integration can keep up with!
If you have developers who write HTML/CSS and don't want to hire a front-end and back-end to fix the errors they cause, or want more features than a simple Wordpress can offer your organization, Viking CMS is the right product for you!
I'm Don Drury, and I created Viking CMS. I built a whole enterprise-scale CMS based on a need I saw working as a front-end developer within the largest media conglomerate in Oklahoma. They had spent 20 years trying to work around their CMS. They had hired a back-end developer, a front-end developer, 4 designers and still weren't able to do the basic things they wanted to do. I built Viking CMS and changed everything for them.
